A solar cell or photoelectric cell is a solid-state device that emits electromagnetic radiation (photon capture) directly converts it into electricity. The basis of energy conversion is that when radiation is absorbed, it generates charged particles capable of movement, which are forced to move in an orderly manner by the built-in electric field resulting from the difference in the electrochemical potentials and the electron exit work in the device, i.e., an electric current is created. This phenomenon takes place with any light source with a suitable light spectrum, not only sunlight.

Solar panel types
Three different types of solar cells are known: amorphous, monocrystalline and polycrystalline structures solar panels. They differ greatly in performance and appearance. In the case of solar systems, it is the most important component.
Monocrystalline solar cell
The monocrystalline solar cell is made up of several cells, and each cell forms a crystal structure. It is made by welding several silicon layers together. Its cells are black in color and can be easily separated from the outside. Currently, this type of solar cell can convert solar energy into electricity with the highest efficiency (15-17%). The factory warranty is 25 years, its service life is at least 30 years. This monocrystalline type is more sensitive to orientation and tilt angle, so special attention must be paid to this when designing solar panels.
Polycrystalline solar cell
Also a solar cell made up of several cells, however, as its name suggests, it is no longer one, but is made up of several crystals. They are made with casting technology. Externally, they are bluish-purple in color. Their production cost is lower than that of their monocrystalline counterparts, but they also operate with lower efficiency (10-13%). The factory warranty is 25 years, their lifespan is at least 30 years. This polycrystalline type is less sensitive to orientation and tilt angle, so it offers a wider range of uses when installing solar systems. Its price is more favorable than that of the monocrystalline type. Nowadays, most of the power plants and household-sized solar systems in the world are currently built from this type.
Amorphous silicon solar cell
The amorphous, or otherwise known as thin-layer solar cell, is the cheapest, but its efficiency is also the weakest (5-8%). That is why they need a large surface area. It is a non-segmented solar cell, its entire surface is made up of a single black-tinted amorphous crystal. It is usually applied to a substrate such as a thin sheet of steel or glass. It can be up to 100 times thinner than the crystalline version. They are mostly used integrated into a building or in places where there is no problem with limited space and a third of the power per unit area compared to crystalline types. However, its advantage compared to crystalline solar cells is that it is less sensitive to heating and can utilize a wider light spectrum. Their surface is nice and homogenous and can be made transparent or flexible. These can be important from an aesthetic as well as an architectural point of view. The factory warranty is 10 years, its lifespan is approx. It can be done for 15 years. These types of solar panels can be used on buildings with larger surfaces as building elements of solar systems.
Solar systems consisting of mono- or polycrystalline modules require 2.5-3 times smaller surface area compared to amorphous technology and the price of the modules is approx. 1.5 times compared to amorphous modules.
