PREFACE

In 2002, when I first came across the book Basics of Sewage Treatment, I was a technologist at Pannon-Víz Zrt. and managed sewage treatment plants. By that time, I had been looking for ways to make sewage treatment systems easier and better to operate. I found what I was looking for in this simple but technologically sound book.

Later, talking to practical colleagues, it was said several times that it was great to study chemistry and water industry knowledge in high school and college, but the knowledge necessary for our work, our task, was actually assembled when we read the Basic Knowledge of Wastewater Treatment.

The feedback I received during my work confirmed that the book published in 1996 should be republished with revisions and additions, as there is no technical book in the hands of local operators that helps them from the basics to the determination of daily tasks and operating conditions. their work. Now we want to fill this gap.

In addition to updating and correcting the first edition (new standards, regulations, etc.), we also supplemented it with the solutions that have been created since then for the problems that have arisen - threading treatment, new methods of sludge treatment, a new type of oxygen measuring probe - and today they are used in sewage treatment plants.

I trust that the new edition will be a useful support for operators in their daily activities, and will also create an opportunity to develop a common professional language and share experiences and results between operators and designers.

Finally, I would like to thank those professionals and my colleagues who contributed to the renewal of this book with their comments, criticisms and persistent work.
